WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

PORTUGAL 2010

Three students from Tsunami Karate Club represented Great Britian at the Kimura Shukokai World Championships in Lisbon, Portugal. They competed against over 800 athletes from all over the world.
Emily Powell won Silver in the ladies lightweight kumite and was also a member of the Silver medal winning Ladies team kata.Natasha Baker took another Silver in the girls 15-17 years kumite. Club member Edward Mitchell was a member of the mens team but just missed out on a medal position.
The Great Britain squad came out 2nd on the medal table.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

 

 
Girls from Tsunami Karate Club struck Gold at the recent Kimura Shukokai National Championships. Emily Powell, Sophie Powell and Natasha Baker triumphed in the Senior grade team kata event. It was a sisters final in the ladies kumite with Sophie beating her elder sister Emily 4-3 to win the title, with Emily Powell and Natasha Baker securing Silver and Bronze respectively in the ladies individual kata.
Sensei Dave Powell won the Silver medal  in the veterans individual kata.
Also taking part were Edward Mitchell and Iain Sinnett who just missed out on the medals.

GRADING

Congratulations to Karen Sinnett on passing her 6th Kyu and Louise Adams on passing her 8th Kyu in the club.

SOPHIE AWARDED KIMURA CUP

 Sophie Powell was named as the most impressive performer of the day at the Shukokai Karate  Federation Kimura Cup Championships at Stourbridge. She was presented with the prestigious award by Shihan Eddie Daniels 8th Dan KSI chief instructor at the Crystal Leisure Centre.
All students performed well and Tsunami had representatives in 7 finals. Emily Powell won silver in the ladies black belt kata, bronze in ladies kumite and silver in the senior team kata along with Sophie and Natasha Baker. It was double gold success for Iain Sinnett in both cadet senior grade kata and kumite. Natasha Baker fought well to take gold in the girls 14-15 years kumite and Sophie Powell  took silver in ladies kumite fighting against the current European champion. Sensei Dave Powell progressed to the veterans kumite final to take the silver medal.

Wyre Forest Sports Festival

 

The club was recently invited to take part in the Wyre Forest Sports Festival at the Ramada Hotel. The special guest was Lord Sebastian Coe. Schools and members of the public were given the chance to get involved and try a new sport. Club members demonstrated Basic techniques,kata,kumite,impact and self defence throughout the day. The event was very enjoyable. Special thanks to Senseis' Steve Farrow & James Dean from Worcester for their help.

KSI European Karate Championships, Potsdam,Germany, 2009

Members of Tsunami travelled with the SKF squad to the KSI European Karate Championships in Potsdam, Germany. Sophie Powell and Natasha Baker brought home a total of 2 Gold and 2 Bronze medals in the girls15-17 years team kata, individual kata and kumite. Edward Mitchell fought well but missed out on the silverware. The Great Britain squad came out on top of the medal table with 12 Golds.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

KSI World Karate Championships, Zurich, Switzerland, 2008  

The Kimura Shukokai International (KSI) World Karate Championships 2008 were held from the 17th to 19th July in Zurich Switzerland and the whole Great Britain squad did extremely well coming home with 25 medals altogether including 8 gold medals 8 silver medals and 9 bronze medals. Sensei Dave and three tsunami students, all members of the SKF National Squad, travelled to Zurich, Switzerland to compete in the KSI World Championships. They brought home a haul of well deserved medals, Sophie Powell won gold in the girls 15-17 years kata and fought well to win bronze in the girls 15-17 years kumite. Emily Powell was part of the team who won silver in the ladies team kata and silver in the ladies team kumite. Natasha Baker, in her first major tournament, won a bronze in the girls 13-14 years individual kata. Sensei Dave took part in the veterans category but just missed out on a medal. The National Squad finished 3rd on the overall medal table, Well done from everyone at the club.

 



Students are now training hard for the Europeans, to be held in Germany in July 2009.
